Speaker: Dr. Rene Duignan - (Central Bank of Italy, Aoyama Gakuin University, Sophia University, Health Policy Institute Japan, Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce, JIC Study Group)

Discussant: Takeshi Tsukii - President - CT Brand and Board Member – Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce.

Profile: Dr. Duignan works for the Central Bank of Italy focusing on Asia Pacific economies with a particular interest in China on which he writes updates for the ECB. Dr. Duignan lectures economic and business at Aoyama Gakuin University and Sophia University. He is co-chair of the Japan in Context (JIC) Study Group, Global Liaison for the Health Policy Institute Japan and is involved in the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce.

Speaker: Dr. Gerard Keown - Embassy of Ireland

Discussant: Robert Dujarric - Director of ICJS - Temple University

Profile: Dr. Keown is Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland in Tokyo. He graduated from Oxford University with a Ph.D. in History and has worked in Austria, Bosnia and Japan. Dr. Keown acted in a support role for the Irish Government Delegation during the historic "Good Friday Agreement" negotiations 1996-99.

Lecture: "Advanced manufacturing vs. service industry- the battle for the economic future of Asia."

Speaker: Eamonn Fingleton - Author and former editor for Forbes and Financial Times

Discussant: Pr. Takahiro Miyao - International University of Japan

Profile: Eamonn Fingleton, a former editor for Forbes and the Financial Times, has been monitoring East Asian economics since he met China's supreme leader Deng Xiaoping in 1986 as a member of a U.S. financial delegation. In Blindside, a controversial 1995 analysis praised by J.K. Galbraith and Bill Clinton, he showed that America was losing its leadership in advanced manufacturing to Japan. His 1999 book, In Praise of Hard Industries, anticipated the American Internet stock crash of 2000. In his 2008 book, In the Jaws of the Dragon, he issues a challenge to the conventional view that China is converging to Western economic and political forms.
